Finder: Dream Sequence (vol. 5)

Credits: Written and Illustrated by Carla Speed McNeil
Publisher: Lightspeed Press

The fifth FINDER novel takes place mostly in Elsewhere, a virtual reality set inside the head of Magri White, a wealthy savant who lets people come and explore the inner landscape of his mind. Elsewhere is big business, with thousands of regulars and first-timers visiting everyday, and an entire corporation has sprung up, employing thousands of technicians and executives dedicated to the maintenance and smooth running of the place.

However, all is not well in Elsewhere.

There is a monster running loose, randomly attacking the visitors and maiming them, causing the users untold neurological damage and mental trauma, turning their fantasies into nightmares of mutilation and death. As the corporation scrambles to hush up the scandal to avoid a fall in the company's value, Magri is hunted and tormented by the monster, who threatens to destroy his increasingly fragile psyche and bring down Elsewhere in the process. Who exactly is the monster, and why does it bear a striking resemblance to Jaeger Ayer, the central character of the series?

With this novel, Carla Speed McNeil continues her exploration of creativity, escapism, the conflict between Art and Business, the thin line that divides Art and Madness, and how personal trauma fuels the creative impulse. Read this series and follow the evolution of one of the most unique voices in comics, and one of the best Science Fiction comics series in the medium.
