Dan is a twelve-year old ugly duckling (literally) whose best and only friend is Larry, a sweaty meat creature stuffed into a robot body. When Dan's not playing in the park or running errands for Larry, he's warding off his sexual advances...
Fantagraphics describes this book as "a story of lost innocence".
You could call it that. I guess.
DAN AND LARRY is really everything that's awful and cruel about growing up in a world that hates you, distilled into surreal landscapes populated by hideous cartoon creatures. It is Disturbing. It will leave you feeling unclean.
The world needs people like Dave Cooper - if for nothing more than the fact that his brain is more damaged then ours. (Hey, it works for me.) And, if you don't believe me about Dave Cooper, he dedicated DAN AND LARRY to his wife.
That... that's nice.
