Son of the Gun: Saint (vol. 2)

Credits: Written by Alexandro Jodorowsky and Illustrated by Georges Bess
Publisher: Humanoids (DC)

Born in the trash, raised by a transvestite midget, nursed on a dog's teat, grown into street-thug-spree-rapist with a tail, currently a vicious bodyguard to a South American dictator, destined inevitably to die on the cross for the sins of his people: the arc of Juan Solo, hero of Jodo & Bess' SON OF THE GUN, would set Joseph Campbell spinning in his grave. And THE PRESIDENT'S DOGS, while not as freeform and out of control as the first volume in the series, continues to follow Juan along the path of his unpredictable and blood-soaked destiny.

This volume of Jodo and Bess' crime-western-political-allegory finds Juan smiting his political enemies - even when they happen to be El Presidente's own college-activist daughter. As Juan manipulates himself into power and his life builds towards its inevitable conclusion, he ends up a surrogate father to El Presidente's neglected wife and son in scenes that touch the heart and are perfect reading for the whole family... if your family surname is Manson.

Women don't fare so well here, but they rarely do in Jodorowsky's books. Try not to think about it.
