Sin City: The Hard Goodbye (vol. 1)

Credits: Written and Illustrated by Frank Miller
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics

Is it wrong that I have a crush on SIN CITY's hero, Marv? Oh, sure he's a psychopath, disfigured and prone to violent outbursts - but he's the kind of burly fella I favor and, well, he's just so darned devoted. It makes me want to kiss and pinch his scarred and bandaged cheeks, it does. I kind of want to kiss and pinch Frank Miller's cheeks, too, but judging from author photo, I don't think he'd let me. Which is fine, really. I guess. I mean - Frank Miller doesn't appear to be a burly guy. He must be awfully devoted, though. You'd have to be awfully devoted to create someone like Marv and something like SIN CITY.

SIN CITY is as noir as noir can be. Literally. The artwork's black and white - as in, "black" and "white." Not "varying shades of gray" and "white." Black black. And white white. There's right, and there's wrong. And just like the black is really, really black, the wrong is really, really wrong. Plus, it's got lines like "It's a lousy room in a lousy part of a lousy town." How can you not love, "It's a lousy room in a lousy part of a lousy town"? You can't resist, "It's a lousy room in a lousy part of a lousy town." You must surrender to SIN CITY. It'll make you feel like a tough guy.

You know, if I ever meet Frank Miller, I am going to pinch his cheeks. Just you try and stop me.
