The White Lama: The First Step (vol. 1)

Credits: Written by Alexandro Jodorowsky and Illustrated by Georges Bess
Publisher: Humanoids Publishing

THE WHITE LAMA is the closest comics have come to capturing the cinematic scope of a David Lean film; beckoning to a time when movies actually felt bigger then life. Of course, it's Alexandro Jodorowsky's seemingly mad penchant for the unexpected and his relentless pursuit of tragedy that puts THE WHITE LAMA in a league all its own.

Set in early twentieth century Tibet, this is the story of Gabriel Marpa, a young white child who is the reincarnation of the Grand Lama. Cast by circumstance in a strange land, Gabriel is torn between two worlds and hounded by corrupt tribal chieftains, as he must prepare for an unknown, pending threat that will change the face of Tibet forever.

THE FIRST STEP is the beginning of this ambitious series that is lavishly illustrated by European master artist Georges Bess; a taut adventure thriller that ventures into the spiritual and the supernatural and will no doubt leave you bewildered, devastated, and amazed with the turn of each page.

Just as I am every time I watch Lawrence lead his rag-tag Arab army against the Turks over those glorious Arabian sand dunes.
