When the recent war in Afghanistan broke out, the smart money was on getting the hell out and staying away. So, obviously, Ted Rall hopped the first flight he could to become a war correspondent in the most dangerous place on earth.
Rall, a political cartoonist and writer, has made a career of reporting on the "stan" region of Central Asia, so he's no stranger to the area. His first-hand experience, insightful commentary and unique eye for humor make TO AFGHANISTAN AND BACK one of the most in-depth reports to come out of that war-torn region.
And it's mostly comics.
Bill Maher, host of Politically Incorrect, lovingly refers to Rall as a "revolting little-America-hating pinko" in his introduction. But what differentiates Rall from his peers is that he actually has a rich background in what he's talking about. So, regardless of whether you agree or disagree with him, there's no dismissing the intelligent discourse that he offers, although you might raise an eyebrow or three.
