Commentary

Wally Wood's CANNON is purely a guilty pleasure.

Wood, considered by many to be the most influential American comic book artist of the twentieth century, is best known for his run of science-fiction stories produced for EC Comics in the 1950's. His realistic art style and unparalleled line work helped revolutionize a young comics industry accustomed to less complicated draftmanship.

Commissioned towards the end of Wood's career, CANNON was originally serialized in Overseas Weekly from 1970 to 1973. Each week, secret-agent John Cannon fought against neo-Nazis, Islamic terrorists and Communist agents (including the deadly and beautiful Madame Toy!). Simply put, CANNON was the ultimate army man's fantasy.

I can't honestly say that CANNON is a literary work. It's simple, politically incorrect and woefully misogynistic. But no one draws a better nude than Wally Wood. And that's got to be worth something.
