I don't know. A lot of so-called critics have slighted Will Eisner's LIFE ON ANOTHER PLANET as being "light". Sure, it's not the subtle, dark, sometimes scathing, social commentary found in A CONTRACT WITH GOD or DROPSIE AVENUE, but you know what it is?
It's a classic farce.
You see, Jim Bludd is an astrophysicist recruited by the C.I.A. to help them with a particular problem - an alien signal has been received in New Mexico and the Russians have shanghaied our scientists. Someone's got to find them and decode the alien recordings and Jim Bludd is our man! Throw in exotic spies, power-hungry billionaires, mad prophets, and a gangster or two, and you've got a gonzo satire that shines a bright light on our most base motives. As he has proven time and time before, no one's better at identifying human foibles than Will Eisner.
And, for pete's sake, how can you pass on a story about a guy with the name of Jim Bludd!
