Biography Jim Ottaviani has written professionally for the comics industry for
over 10 years. Starting as a reviewer and interviewer for trade
magazines, he moved to the other side of the creative fence in 1997
with the publication of TWO-FISTED SCIENCE. That first trade
paperback, focused on physicists, won a Xeric Grant and was an Eisner
nominee. His second book, DIGNIFYING SCIENCE (stories about women
scientists), earned him another Eisner nomination and an invitation to
speak about comics at the Nobel Museum in Stockholm. His third,
FALLOUT: J. ROBERT OPPENHEIMER, LEO SZILARD, AND THE POLITICAL SCIENCE
OF THE ATOMIC BOMB is his most ambitious work. It came out in November
2001 and features art by Janine Johnston, Jeffrey Jones, Steve Lieber,
Vince Locke, Bernie Mireault, and Jeff Parker. It too was nominated
for an Eisner and an Ignatz as well. Look for SUSPENDED IN LANGUAGE, a
book about Niels Bohr with art by Leland Purvis, with Jay Hosler,
Roger Langridge, Steve Leialoha, Linda Medley, and Jeff Parker in
2003.
